My first memory of any kind of a 'movie'. I know, it's TV, but my idea of motion pictures includes all forms. - television, film, home video, digital including YouTube and even, though I am thoroughly unfamiliar with it, TikTok.
Yes, this clip will age me*. I am a child of the "British Invasion".
The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand - Performed Live On The Ed Sullivan Show 2/9/64
I was 4 years old.
More clips from the show below the fold...
Also shown the same night as the Beatles, and I remember this too.
The original cast of Oliver, Ed Sullivan Show, February 9, 1964.
R.I.P. Davy Jones - the Artful Dodger
This one I don't remember so well. Mitzi McCall and Charlie Brill were a very unlikely comedy duo appearing between Beatles sets. (audio only)
Office Comedy Sketch: Casting A Young Actress (Performed live on The Ed Sullivan Show 2/9/64)
I understand there were at least another 5 acts on that night. This is yet another one I have no memory of, your standard 60's era magician.
Fred Kaps "Card Magic" on The Ed Sullivan Show - February 9, 1964
* - By my definition, I may well be the last of the 'baby boomers! My definition (mine because I've never heard anyone else suggest it) is that the end of the boomer era and beginning of Genx (or whatever) is very specific. Not specific in time, but in memory. If you remember at least one of two events, preferably both. One is the assassination of JFK and the Beatles first appearance on The Ed Sullivan show (USA only), then you are a baby boomer. If not, then you are the next generation. For me, I do NOT remember the JFK assassination but I DO remember the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. It's important to remember that the two events were only 3 months apart - JFK in Nov. 1963 and the Beatles in Feb. of 1964. I was 4 years old.
Hence I consider myself as the very last of the Boomer Tribe, or am I the very first GenX?. All taken with a grain of salt, of course, since the whole fundamental core idea of generational tribes is kind of weird marketing-based bullshit.
